Outdoor Dining Spaces That Bring People Together

More Than Just a Place to Eat
Outdoor dining spaces have become one of the most-used areas of the home—and time and time again, our clients tell us the same thing: once the weather turns warm, everything shifts outside.
Meals become longer. Conversations linger. Friends gather. Families reconnect.
Designing Around How People Actually Live
That’s why we see outdoor dining as more than just a place to barbecue. When designed intentionally, it becomes an extension of the home itself—part kitchen, part lounge, part gathering place.
Just as the kitchen is often called the heart of the home, outdoor dining spaces tend to become the heart of the backyard.
That’s why we spend a great deal of time talking with clients about how they actually live. Do they entertain often? Cook together as a family? Host large groups? Prefer quiet evenings outdoors? Those answers shape everything from layout and flow to appliance selection, seating areas, lighting, and how the entire space connects.
Creating Places of Rest
One of our mantras at Paul Lafrance Design is creating places of rest in a world that’s gone crazy—and outdoor living spaces are no exception.
For us, good design isn’t just about adding features. It’s about creating environments that invite people to slow down, breathe, and spend meaningful time together. Sometimes the most important part of a project isn’t the structure itself—it’s the life that happens around it.
The Spaces We Remember Most
Whether it’s a built-in grill station, a covered dining area, a pizza oven, or simply a comfortable place to gather at the end of the day, thoughtful outdoor design can completely transform how a home is experienced.
If you were designing your ideal outdoor dining space, what would be the one feature you couldn’t live without?
